Here at Conan Heating & Air Conditioning, we’ve seen every imaginable AC problem over the years. And we’re dedicated to helping Idaho Falls, ID homeowners to resolve those problems quickly and effectively. All of that experience, however, gives us a unique perspective on the most common types of AC issues that homeowners should look out for. Here’s what you need to know to avoid unnecessary AC issues.

An AC That’s Starved for Air

By far, the most common issue we see with AC systems here in Idaho Falls is airflow problems. Most of the time, they’re the result of a dirty or otherwise obstructed air filter that’s past its recommended replacement date. When this happens, your AC system can’t draw in enough warm air from your home to cool it. That leads to poor airflow from the vents around your home. If you ignore the problem long enough, it could even lead to your AC’s evaporator coils freezing.

When that happens, your AC might stop blowing cold air almost completely. That happens because the frozen coil further obstructs airflow and prevents the coil from effectively extracting heat from your home’s air. Unfortunately, once this happens, you could be looking at hours spent waiting for your evaporator coil to defrost, and during that time, you’ll have no AC at all.

Avoiding This Common Problem

The good news is that all you have to do to avoid this common problem is to stay on top of your AC filter replacement schedule. For most systems, you’ll want to change the air filter every 90 days to keep your system running at peak performance. However, if you have pets in your home or anyone living in it with allergies or breathing issues, you should change your filter even more often. In those situations, a replacement schedule of once every month or six weeks is appropriate.
